Grid’s Bare Essentials for the Graphic Designer

Categories: Design, Inspiration

Grid’s bare essentials for the graphic designer! As a working human, have you ever tried listing what you need most on your chosen profession? Being a Graphic Designer, Ashwin Patel listed it down using great iconography and representations of the essential needs of Graphic Designers.

Let’s take a look at this detailed piece of print and check if you missed some things on the list.

Ashwin Patel at gridlondon.com has launched a poster to outline the stereotypical ‘must haves’ of today’s graphic designers. Born in England and working just out of London, Ashwin entered the design world shortly after graduating at UCA in 2007. He has been lucky to work along side some great minds since his studies and using this experience and knowledge he has come up with some of the essentials he believes what makes the graphic designer.

Illustrated with punchy, to the point and simple icons, the poster describes mind set and values to tools and appliances.

More of Ashwin’s work can be found at www.gridlondon.com

  • Before design your logo you consider above all the points means you get it quality log. Great information posted here.

  • It's always good to get an estimate from your designer as to how long they expect the task to take, or even better try and get them to quote 'for the job' regardless of how long it takes them. Don't forget to ask if revisions are included in the 'for the job' price

  • Thin Lines in Graphics: Any line used in a graphical image is made up of a 'line point size', this can vary from as tiny as 0.10 all the way up to 1,2,3, or even 10 point size and higher. The bigger the point size the fatter the line is and vice versa.

An inexperienced designer perhaps one who has produced a detailed illustration with much in the way of fine details - may not realise that you must never hand any design over to a printing firm that contains a line size smaller than 0.25 - printing presses simply cannot print lines any thinner than 0.25 points.
  • Graphic designers are highly in demand with the rise in technologies like animation, designing, cartooning, visual effects and more. With its noteworthy success, the graphical sector has made a mark in the designing industry today.  This has led to an increasing strong interest of Graphic Design Programs among youngsters throughout the world. With this, we observe a growing number of universities offering Graphic design diploma or degree courses worldwide.

  • Graphics work is all about making basic elements work together to engage, excite and interest the viewer for your graphics. I think most important factors are Fonts, Color Scheme, Pictures and Layout

You should be smart to get ideas for your design from all possible sources.
  • I didnt know that a designer needed so many aspects in them to create their works. Some, I find kind of not fitting for the graph, but oh well. Besides that, why would you want a gun? To shoot anyone that doesnt like your creations? Interesting.
  • I think I've got everything except the gun, I'll have to work on that!
  • haha nice poster! hey youve been busy lately huh? i hadnt seen anything new :( ..glad youre back!
